Substance Abuse

My experience in treating substance abuse is broad.  I have a Certificate in Addictions Counseling from UCLA Extension.  My work started with an internship that gave me the opportunity to co-facilitate Alcohol Education, Intensive Outpatient, and Anger Management classes. I had a well-rounded experience in community mental health substance abuse treatment by providing counseling services in a detox facility, inpatient recovery, outpatient services, and intensive case management.  I am happy to be able to provide substance abuse treatment that is truly based on your recovery goals.

Throughout my experience in substance abuse treatment it was quite obvious that most treatment programs favor a 12-step approach.  This works wonderfully for many people, but it does not work for even more people.  When I work with individuals struggling with substance abuse, I strive to offer you as many treatment options as possible. Carl Jung said, "The shoe that fits one pinches another."  When someone is unsuccessful at maintaining abstinence after treatment, it is a common belief that they failed at treatment. I believe that oftentimes treatment has failed the client by trying to force the person's foot into a shoe that clearly did not fit. I would like to work with you to find out what is useful to you and then implement those things into your recovery process.  There is more than one way to achieve and maintain a life without addiction.  Let's find out what course of recovery works for you!

"Every addiction starts with and ends with pain.  Whatever the substance you are addicted to - alcohol, food, legal or illegal drugs, or a person - you are using something or someone to cover up your pain."
